Today’s lay ministers are assuming greater leadership roles in the Catholic Church. Most need formal theological education. Siena Heights University is committed to the academic preparation of these men and women through its Program in Theological Studies. Begun in 1995 in collaboration with the Diocese of Lansing Siena Heights has offered classes at various sites in Michigan (Lansing, Flint, Jackson, Ypsilanti, and since the fall of 2002, Kalamazoo).
The Program in Theological Studies is a two level certificate program. Level 1 of the certificate program consists of 18 hours of undergraduate theology credit; Level II is an additional 18 hours in theology. Completion of both levels could constitute a contracted major in theology for a student seeking a bachelor ’s degree. Completion of 18 hours could constitute a minor in theology. We employ quality faculty who teach in the name of the Catholic Church to meet the needs of non-traditional students while maintaining the excellence of a university education.
