                          LENTEN OFFERINGS

Prayer – Who Does What?

Many of us grew up thinking prayer is something we ourselves must do. But Ruth Burrows, an English Carmelite, offers a different perspective in her book, Essence of Prayer. She says, "Faith assures us that prayer is essentially what God does." Using this clearly written, spiritually freeing book, we will take a new look at the essence of prayer on four Friday mornings in Lent.

Monica Stuhlreyer, IHM, facilitator

Leaning into Sunday Mornings

The Sunday Scripture readings that are part of our Catholic treasure are more nourishing for our spirits when carefully prepared. You’re invited to put aside time on Monday mornings to prepare for the following week’s readings. The time together will include some input, time for reflection, sharing insights and questions with regard to the scripture’s connection to daily life.

Grieving as Sacred Space

Whenever we experience loss a job, a home, a marriage, a pet, or the wider suffering in our current world we may find ourselves experiencing significant spiritual and psychological pain. During this day of reflection and sharing, we wish to discover for ourselves how the mystery of suffering loss may actually have the power to transform us. Participants will receive input and share in prayer and reflection on some of the losses we have known. This mutual sharing will assist us in remaining attentive to Christian hope.

The Passion in St. Paul and in Our Lives

In this year of St. Paul we will consider what lessons he teaches us through his words and by the witness of his life. The passion of Christ burned within him and was a compelling force driving him into preaching and missionary activity. We, too, are "passionate" people and we daily make choices whether to be led by Christ’s passion or our own particular urges and drives.

Msgr. John Zenz, presenter
March 18: 7-9 p.m.
Registration due one week in advance—suggested donation at door $20

Why Should Christians Go Green?

In this session of input and reflection, we will attempt to articulate current concerns about the peril of our planet and the emerging Universe Story within a Christian perspective. Some people see our planetary responsibility as a Gospel mandate. What do you think? Is the care for polar bears and the fear of global warming really a faith problem? Come for a day of exploration.

Mary Ellen Sheehan, IHM, presenter

Musings Over Mugs

Some of the best insigts happen over a cup of coffee or tea.  In our small groupp setting, women gather to explore the grace and challenges of their lives as seen through the eyes of faith. Using readings, reflection and dialogue, participants sift through their "ordinary" life experiences and, in the process, may make spiritual discoveries. Come join us!

Fiction, Memoirs and Spirituality

Fi

can be a spiritual exercise; sharing them in a book "club" a most enjoyable conversation and may deepen our understandinof what it means to be human. Our book for March is An Interrupted Life: Diaries and Letters of Etty Hillesum. This book gives us a portrait of an extraordinary woman and her spiritgrowth through the darkest years of the Nazi occupation and genocide. Etty Hillesum remained a celebrant of life; her intelligence, sympathy and almost impossible gallantry were themselves a forinner resistance. Often described as an adult counterpart to Frank, she testifies to the possibility of awareness and compassionthe face of the most devastating challenge to one’s humanity.
